Greetings readers,
Welcome back to the blog!
It’s been a LONG while since the last time I posted a blog on here. Life’s been busy and hectic, and (super) long story short— I’VE MOVED! Yes, you heard that right, I moved cities. I departed from the city I lived for ten plus years, nine of which were my university years as a part-time student. It was and always will be a city I loved, and I made great connections and met amazing people and friends there.
My decision to relocate wasn’t an easy one, and I still don’t know if it’s the right decision or not. But sometimes, staying stuck in one place for too long isn’t good, either. It’s better to “move around” sometimes and to see what other places/cities have to offer. Of course, as a disabled person, that’s easier said than done.
One of the challenges I thought about the most about relocating, especially with regards to medical care is, looking for new doctors and new medical teams. That is, after all the most important thing, as someone who takes medications regularly, and needs follow ups from time to time. One of the bigger challenges in this area is, finding a new family doctor, and it’s known loud and clear that, there’s a shortage of family physicians. But, my family health care team agreed to keep me on until I am able to find a new one, and medical care from specialists are “slightly easier” to transfer or switch over.
Being disabled, and especially being legally blind, navigating a new environment/ a new city can be challenging. Where to find services, resources, community, are all unknown. But with time, those can be sorted out slowly. Just like how I did it once when I went to university in a new city 10+ years ago.
So, what’s next? Well, as I always say, one step at a time. I do have a couple of plans being in this new city. Of course, familiarize myself with the city and the environment, and places I likely will frequent, is a first. Then, I have thoughts about going back to school, but nothing is set in stone right now, and I have not applied nor being accepted into any programs, yet. But, first things first, after being away for a while from my activism work, I’m thinking about coming back to do more of it, because we all know how important this work is for me, so I’m definitely coming back to it.
So, that’s all for this blog, after all, it’s just a brief life update— and just a reminder, I know I put things online and publicly for people to see and read, but some things I do leave out, too. I know I have folks in real life reading my blogs, and knowing more about my move, I’d trust that you don’t publicize beyond what I’m willing to share online, thank you!
