Hello Everyone,

Welcome to The Invisible Vision Project’s Blog, and welcome to the 6th episode of Guest Blogger Interviews. Today’s interview is the first of 2019 and also the first with a mental health blogger! Today’s guest blogger we have is Mo, and her blog is called-Treat Yo Brain. Without further ado, let’s get right into the interview:

  1. Please briefly introduce yourself.
Hey, I’m Mo! Well, Mo isn’t exactly my real, full name, but everyone calls me Mo, and since I wanted to remain mildly anonymous (and I say mildly because a good lot of people I know in real life know about my blog), I decided to use the name Mo as my pen name. Anyway, I’m 22 years old, from the USA, and I plan on moving to the UK as soon as I graduate from uni to be with my boyfriend and his family.
  2. What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy singing, playing guitar and ukulele, bullet journaling, and crocheting.
  3. Name your strengths? And your lacking?
I am passionate, intelligent, hard-working, and kind. However, I can be very emotional to the point that I’d have to take days off work and school. This is mostly due to my BPD. My boyfriend has called me abusive and manipulative in the past due to my behaviors, and I’m working hard to become a better person and overcome my mental illness.
  4. What is the highest level of education you have completed so far?
I will be graduating this May with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Departmental Honors.
  5. What is your current occupation?
I am a full-time college student but I also work part-time as an Administrative Research Assistant in a psychology lab.
  6. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself having a family and working on my blog full-time to advocate for mental health.
  7. Describe one of your proudest moment in your life.
One of the proudest moments of my life was when I presented my research findings to faculty and staff of my school. It was one of the most anxiety inducing moments of my life but I had worked very hard with my research and it turned out to be a huge success.
  8. What is your biggest fear in life?
My biggest fear in life is to suffer from my mental illness alone. No partner. No family. No friends. Complete loneliness.
  9. Please tell us about your blog: What is the title of your blog? When did you first get into blogging and Why did you start?
My blog is called “Treat Yo Brain”. I started blogging early February of this year, and I decided to blog because of my own reactions to my diagnosis of BPD. Even though I was well educated about the illness, the stigma attached to it made me deny my diagnosis for months. It wasn’t until I accepted the diagnosis that I began my journey for recovery. And I want others to be able to do the same by destigmatizing mental illness.
  10. How would you describe your blogging style?
My blogging style is very sarcastic, funny, and casual, but very informative. I want my readers to feel comfortable and entertained, while being well informed.
  11. Who has impacted you the most in blogging?
I suppose my boyfriend has impacted me the most during my blogging journey. He reads every draft and lets me know how I can improve upon an article prior to publishing it. I also ask for advice about the design of the site and how to improve. It’s always nice to have a second set of eyes on it to give my readers the best quality I could give.
  12. How active are you on your blog and approximately, how much time do you spend blogging?
I am quite active on my blog despite the fact that I’m dealing with being a full-time student. I spend every bit of free time I get on working on researching for my next article or writing it up.
  13. Have you ever faced a challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
The most challenging moment in my blogging journey so far was staying comfortable with the blogging style I chose. The night I launched, someone messaged me saying that if I continued writing articles with curse words in it, people won’t take me seriously and think that I’m some bratty teenager wanting to drop F-bombs. I felt insecure and consulted my readers on Twitter who assured me that they loved the cursing aspect of the articles. I decided then to just keep doing me.
  14. In the future, where do you hope your blog will take you?
I hope my blog will become my full-time job and will allow me to create a positive change on the world’s view of mental health.
  15. What would be one piece of advice you would give to first time bloggers?
Make friends with other bloggers and with people also suffering from mental illness. They are my biggest inspirations and support.
